Why This Dog Was So Special

Sadie arrived late in life, carrying more than her years should have asked of her. Nearly deaf, losing her sight, and living with epilepsy, she also bore the weight of painful skin conditions that had clearly gone untreated for far too long. Yet beneath it all was a dog who had known love. She leaned into arms without hesitation and found comfort in a lap as if she had always belonged there. Over the two years we shared, Sadie showed quiet resilience and unmistakable courage. She stood her ground with bigger dogs, grumbled when she felt like it, and faced each day on her own terms. Though much of her time required care and vet visits, she reminded me that dignity and spirit do not fade with age or illness. Sadie’s journey was not an easy one, but she was never alone again. She left this world safe, seen, and deeply loved.

As dogs age, hearing loss may diminish their connection & heighten their risks, but it doesn’t have to limit their joy.

If dogs live long enough, they will most likely lose their hearing. Beyond missing the friendly call of their owner, dog’s lives are profoundly affected by deafness. A hearing-impaired dog is more likely to become injured, be abandoned, and be prematurely euthanized.
